Casa Faena Miami Beach
Casa Faena began life in 1928 as the El Paraiso Apartments, one of Martin L....
Roy F. France built the Cadillac in 1940, and its rounded "eyebrow" window hoods and ribboned balconies are still the clearest lesson in Streamline Moderne on this stretch of Collins Avenue. The hotel spent three years as a U.S. Army base during the Second World War before returning to guests, and a $47-million restoration in 2017 and 2018 kept the terrazzo floor in the lobby while tilting the rest of the property toward an Italian Riviera mood, all nautical stripes and handmade pasta. A second tower, built next to the original 264-room building, brought the count to 357 rooms without touching the historic structure's protected façade.
We chose the Cadillac because it solves a problem most Art Deco hotels don't: it photographs like a museum piece and runs like a resort. The preserved lobby and the beach-house interiors by Bill Rooney Studio keep the 1940s present without costuming it, and two working pools, a proper Italian kitchen, and a boardwalk gate straight onto the sand mean the hotel is built for a week, not an afternoon. Nearly three in four rooms open onto a balcony, which on this part of Mid-Beach still means ocean or skyline, not a parking garage.
3925 Collins Avenue sits in Mid-Beach, a quieter register than the nightclub strip of South Beach ten minutes south, inside the Collins Waterfront Historic District. The beach here is wide and uncrowded by Miami standards, reached through a private boardwalk gate rather than a public access point. Lincoln Road's shops and restaurants are a short drive away, and the hotel's own seaplane dock puts the Everglades and Key West within a morning's reach for guests who want Miami to be a jumping-off point rather than the whole trip.

The hotel splits its pool deck in two: a main pool that reads as classic Miami Beach, loungers and families included, and a second, adults-only pool ringed by private cabanas that feels like a different hotel entirely. It is the detail that turns a well-located landmark into a place worth booking a full stay rather than a single night before moving on, and it is the amenity past guests mention first.
Donna Mare Trattoria anchors the hotel's Italian Riviera turn with handmade pasta and a wine list heavy on Italian labels, while Bungalow by the Sea keeps the poolside crowd fed on something lighter, open to outside guests as well as those staying upstairs. Between the two kitchens and a lobby bar built around rosé, the Cadillac is one of the rare Mid-Beach hotels where dinner doesn't require leaving the property, useful on a night when the only plan is to watch the light change over the water.
The historic tower's rooms are smaller than the newer wing's, a trade-off for staying inside the original 1940 structure; travellers who want more space should ask for the newer building at booking. There is no spa on site, though in-room treatments can be arranged, and the hotel leans into its beach-club identity more than a quiet-retreat one, so it suits travellers looking for activity on the sand rather than silence.
